Staygold feat. Spank Rock, Damien Adore & Robyn – Backseat

The video above is from the amazing P3 Guld 2010 (a Swedish music industry awards show). I sat through the whole thing in Swedish last night (which is a language I don’t speak) and enjoyed every minute (check it here). It’s a testament to how an awards show should be, and I’m saddened that there’s nothing as interesting and dynamic here in North America.

I was completely drawn into each performance as the program progressed through the various styles of current popular Swedish music. What makes it all so good? It’s just great pop music from a young and healthy industry. My favourite part (along with most of the internet) was Fever Ray’s acceptance speech:

‘Making Lady Gaga look like a complete amateur.

Not to be nitpicky, more as an information: P3 guld isn’t really an equivalent to the Grammys (we have that too, it’s called Grammis and it’s just as boring as the original). P3 is one of the largest radio-stations in Sweden, it’s part of the public service media (comparable BBC in the UK).
