Back in August I was obsessed with the Major Lazer Essential Mix on Radio 1 (which never made it’s way to the website). Around the 53 minute mark, Diplo’s set digresses into what appears to be ‘Halo’ by Beyoncé but is actually Elephant Man’s take on the Halo riddim.
I really think ‘Halo’ is a nice track, despite it being over played everywhere. The piano riff is very simple, but very effective and very pretty. When first hearing the cover I just went nuts looking for it, by whoever did it, so I can download it and play it again and again. Due to the Mad Decent shout out in the Essential Mix, I assumed it was a Diplo inspired idea… but it wasn’t until this week when a guy I used to work with sent me the track.
Apparently his brother’s really into dancehall and had it sitting around on a mix cd. So there we have it: Elephant Man covering Beyoncé’s Halo — ‘Bless We More.’
