I was browsing Ohh Crapp the other day and came across a post promoting a remix of The Virgins’ ‘Rich Girls’ by a little known DJ who goes by the name Hemingway. I thought I had heard of this kid before (and no, not because of the Ernest), and scoured through my mailbox finding a few remixes he had sent DOCKSTA back in December of ’08. Unfortunately, until now, Hemingway had fallen through the cracks (at least for us). His remix of ‘Rich Girls’ was probably ignored just due to the massive competition he has: The Twelves and Le Castle Vania. Hemingway fits nicely in with these two artists though, with a similar style yet different feel; quite funky.

The Virgins – Rich Girls (Hemingway Remix)
I’m a little surprised we missed Hemingway back in 08, because the tracks he shared with us we’re pretty entertaining. I guess I was still playing lots of WoW back then… and my priorities were elsewhere. Anyways, Hemingway is a Canadian student currently in Toronto who produced a slew of tracks while his University was on strike for three months. Hemingway seems to really appreciate the French touch style of house for his remixes, including slap bass and space italo-synths which he incorporated in his ‘Estella’s Invitation’ remix originally by Christov. ‘Machine,’ a Hemingway original, is a little bit more industrial with a few 8-bit sounds.
