So last week we got some mail by a new producer who goes by the alias Gunstar. As every other blog has stated, for a newcomer aged 20-something, ‘The Dream Machine’ is a pretty powerful track. Excellent crescendos, thriving synths, spacey arpeggios and driving drums.
I couldn’t help but feel like I had personally heard this track many times before. The PR firm who sent Gunstar’s track our way, stated it was brand new by this artist and didn’t exist. Other blogs who also posted ‘The Dream Machine’ didn’t make mention of it either, so I set off hunting for the “original” similar song to find out if I was completely delusional.
Futurecop! had released a very similar track back in February of ‘08 on IHEARTCOMIX! Although they are pretty different (as in not chord for chord) they share some pretty common themes. The rolling arpeggios seem to be of the same style with a similar synth riff. I’m not saying that Gunstar is ripping off anyone else, but give em both a listen and tell me I’m not crazy. For the record I like both of these tracks a hell of a lot… I just don’t know which one I like more.

good work
This Gunstar character commented on Futurecop’s myspace that he was “inspired” by them… I think that’s an understatement.
