Gdansk has so much soul

10Oct08

Michal Jacaszek, a Polish producer form Gdansk has released his 2007/2008 project: Treny. Now this is old news to some, but this guy deserves some SERIOUS exposure. I would describe this as the best, most heart-wrenching electronic music I have ever listened to. And thats a fo’ serious claim.

He takes simple electronic elements and blends them with classical instruments and eerie vocals, rarely with words – sounding more like ghostly moans. The whole album has this haunting tone to it, and makes you feel like you’re walking around an empty underwater opera-house or something. Also, cellos are badass. He has a cellist. I just picked the album up myself from Forced Exposure; they’re excellent as well.

I’m going to leave you with his song ‘Lament’; heavy name, fits the mood of the song, which in turn flows nicely with the rest of the album. I discovered it while looking at a preview of Jet-pack Brontosaurus. Don’t ask.
