Awhile back we featured a small Swedish band by the name of The LK and their single ‘Private Life of a Cat.’ Seems that Lindefelt and Fredrik have dropped the synthesizers and moved along to more analogue instruments. Along four others, they have formed the Swedish pop orchestra Fredrik.
Drawing on traditional european folk influences like The Fairport Convention or Bo Hansson, crooning songwriters as well as a host of eclectic references like Moondog, Steve Reich, Jim O’Rourke, Maja Ratke or Barbara Morgenstern, Fredrik forges a sound that is both eclectic and homecomingly soothing.
Kora Records outta DC will be once again hosting the release of the album, Na Na Ni. You can get it over at their store for $10 USD or via iTunes. Kora, being the friendly label that it is, sent us the entire album to preview at our leisure and as far as I’m concerned, it’s worth considerately more than a pack of premium brand cigarettes, here in Canada.
They didn’t forget about the skeptic, so they were nice enough to offer us a single. Just like the name suggests, ‘Black Fur’ is a comforting folk song. The vocal harmonies come together like milk and cookies, smothered in other instruments; strings, guitar and a xylophone amplify it’s airy nature as the drums come marching in. I’ve had this on and off repeat for the last few days.

Fredrik will be touring the United States next month with the release of Na Na Ni, but unfortunately won’t make it to Canada. If you’re in any of these cities on the appropriate date, I suggest you check out this band regardless of the fact that you yourself maybe an electronic dance DJ. Details after the jump.
