Katy Perry is a potential candidate as a one-hit-wonder artist. It’s difficult and rather foolish to make that judgment at this time in her career, but seeing as how ‘I Kissed A Girl’ gathered publicity based on its choice content rather than the skills she certainly possesses. The “empowering” attitude comes off as a marketing decision rather than an opinion, which always bothered me.
Pop music isn’t the only genre that heavily markets it’s artists and their music. It would be foolish not to acknowledge that the “urban” music industry does exactly the same thing, but I still love bad rap music regardless. I’m a hypocrite I suppose, but there’s something tastelessly absorbing about well produced meaningless music — it’s just so perfect. I digress.
Katy Perry has seemingly recorded a cover of ‘Electric Feel’ by New York psychedelic pop artists MGMT. It’s a converging of present pop music like no other! It’ll be interesting to see what Katy has planned next.

Katy Perry – Electric Feel (MGMT Cover)
Thanks to fluo kids.

I love this one! Thanks for posting. I’m thinking Katy is not going to be a one hit wonder…
One hit wonder? Maybe. But if you read her wikipedia entry you’ll see she’s been someone’s investment for some time now.
Or you could go over to http://youbeencrushed.blogspot.com and download allllll the remixes of this song. then even if she is a one hit wonder you’ll have like 5 versions of the same hit!
yay!
I tend to side with the thought that we are heading towards one hit wonder with Ms. Perry. Again, too soon to tell, but if we were going to base her future on this cover, the poor dear would be waiting tables by the end of the year.
Disgusting manufactured pop with lip-stick daddy’s little lesbo marketing ploys. Amounts to nothing more than fake controversial content “shocking” the homogeneous pop aesthetic. Hey, maybe i retained a bit to much from my Issues in Popular Music class.
But she might have talent, although its clear shes marketed for her looks (She is hot, after all.)
As for this cover, in my opinion, the musical abilities and song writing prowess of MGMT is what is actually carrying this. But it still sounds nice.
