Cape Town DJ/producer DJ Lapse sent us a couple of remixes of M.I.A. and 2 Unlimited that he uses to rock crowds in South Africa. Thanks to the internet, we have the borderless expression of music. What country doesn’t need hipsters? Egypt is next.
Of course the M.I.A. remix is ‘Paper Planes.’ It’s to be expected, this song just doesn’t get old. I’ve noticed a lot of radio play of ‘Paper Planes’ lately, as it seems to be climbing local charts in the hip-hop and pop playlists. Think this is due to its exposure in Pineapple Express? The remix does a great job of looping M.I.A.’s voice giving it, well, a “loopy” sound without using any of the gunshots. Definitely going to confuse kids in the club with this one.
‘Get Ready For This’ is not the 2 Unlimited remixed (Kissy’s is definitely the best). Lapse tackled another big hit by the Dutch duo, ‘No Limit.’ It’s not all that different except for a complete reworking of the synth and bass sounds updating it to the 2000s. Don’t worry, the cheesy 90s stuff is still there, it just sounds less crusty.

Paper Planes popularity is totally due to Pineapple express, it was literally M.I.A. (Missing in Action) prior to the soundtrack.
Also, I love that new Kanye track its fresh!
i was jamming to that song way before pineapple express even came out.
maybe it brought it over the top, but i’m pretty sure the track speaks for itself in its popularity – cause it’s awesomeeeeee.
