Adrian Lux

20Sep08

Adrian Lux is a Swedish electro producer rockin the city of Stockholm. His new EP ‘Strawberry’ was recently released on La Vida Locash, a nice little Swedish label. The video for the original mix of Strawberry is pretty. It’s filmed in a grainy almost retro looking way that gives it a nice soft feeling, like everything else about the music. Strawberry turf wars.

The track apparently features members of the Swedish indie-band Those Dancing Days. It’s been getting a lot of attention from other larger DJs such as Justice who compared Lux to Alan Braxe and Lifelike.

La Vida Locash sent us over a remix of the single Strawberry featuring some pretty big current rap acts. The remix is distinguished as “rapclash;” which I interpret as the genre that crosses rap and electro. What do we call that here?

The remix hosts Baltimore’s Rye Rye of all folks, as well as Swedish hip-hop acts Alexis Weak, Lorentz and M. Sakarias. The Swedish acts are great — I only wish I spoke the language to understand what they’re saying.

I don’t know what it is, but I’ve always loved Swedish hip-hop. I think it’s the consistent inclusion of more dance music orientated electronic sounds compared to something like American dirty south. The DJ Yxa and Jeansbjörn mixtape for Discobelle is one of my personal all time favourite mixtapes, which featured a couple of Swedish tracks intertwined with American hip-hop. Of course we can’t forget artists like Adam Tensta and Maskinen for bringing it big here to North America.

After perusing Adrian Lux stuff for awhile I managed to find some bootleg remixes of Pryda (that would be Eric Prydz under a different and cooler name) on Discobelle.

You know who a good Swedish rapper is? Petter. I’m a big fan of the “God Damn It (Astmarocwell rmx)”
