I recently got a promo email from some promo dude featuring the T!Katz (formerly known as the Thunderkatz). This electronic band thing currently residing in Atlanta, recently signed to Irv Gotti’s The Inc Records (formerly Murder, Inc). He’s responsible for Ja Rule and Ashanti, stuff I remember from Much Music and middle school… a long long time ago. Apparently Irv is trying to clean up the label and include different types of talent (recently signed soft-rock/piano-pop artist Vanessa Carlton) after laundering drug money.
The promo email went on about how the Godfather (Irv), superstar whatever, was taking on the Thunderkatz, etc, etc, so on and so forth. It completely ignored the band themselves (like I’ve done so far) so I had to do a little research of my own and not cut and paste like the post below.
T!Katz is actually a band. They consist of two vocalists, guitars, keys, bass and drums (picture above has another guy who might been scrapped) from all over the United States going for a rock/hip-hop image (a new Linkin Park if you will). You might remember the male vocalist, o8o, from the Villains “Second Offense” mixtape rapping over Chromeo who hails from Philly. The female vocalist, Ginger, has a great voice, kinda sexy — she’s from New Jersey. Others coming from NJ, South Carolina, D.C. and even Germany.
I couldn’t get my hands on any of the .mp3s of the original T!Katz swag, but I did have a remix of ’3 AM’ by Atlanta’s DJ Klever sitting around. This remix takes the electronic element of ’3 AM’ past producers Mel & Mus’ original production giving it a darker and harder feeling.
It’s probably for the best I only have this (great) remix, because I hear Irv Gotti doesn’t resort to DMCA take-down notices to get a message across. Rumour has it, he sends Ja Rule and Vanessa Carlton to your door to fuck you up — word.

Their debut album “19hundred80something” is set to drop sometime before ’09 so make sure you look out for it. Should be pretty popular in all crowds. Also, below is the video for their first single ‘Anything’ — I suppose it wasn’t as well received as ’3 AM’ but is still a great track.
