A Milli

15Sep08

Single #2 off the “Tha Carter III” seems to be coming to an end as single #3, ‘Got Money,’ starts to get some airplay. I gotta say I actually like ‘Got Money’ a little bit, it’s not a bad track and if you love that auto-tune thing it’s got T-Pain on it. Back to ‘Milli. Lil’ Wayne is the King of something to get so much attention.

I’ve collected a few remixes of the last couple months since the release of “Tha Carter III” so I’mma upload some of my favourites besides the Chewy Chocolate Cookies remix. I’mma start off with Infuze outta New York. This guy’s a strange one: according to his myspace he’s studied a wide variety of classical musical instruments like the piano and violin as well as composition. In between being a drum n’ bass DJ he’s also composer and musical engineer working in the film and video game industries. In his spare time I guess he thought it would be cool to remix ‘A Milli.’ S’dope. Check out more of Infuze’s beats at his website.

Next up: Baltimore. The King of Baltimore club music Scottie B laid down the notorious Bmore beat, gun shots and all, on ‘Milli a cappella. My!Gay!Husband! also gave ‘A Milli’ a Baltimore club experience fill. These guys, outta Vancouver, BC (that’s in Canada) are nowhere close to Baltimore but can lay down a thick hip hop beat.

Lil’ Wayne – A Milli (My!Gay!Husband! Edit)

The last one (but not the least) is a tricky one. I found this remix over at Here Comes The Fuzz; a blog run by a guy named Law who uploads his (assumption) remixes and mixes on his blog. The “Swagger Over Here” remix is pretty dark and raw, keeping the original theme of the track as well as being the only remix that keeps the original tempo and structure of the lyrics. It’s probably one of the best I’ve heard so far.

Found this guy when he left a comment on DOCKSTA. Check out his blog for more.

Okay, don’t get me wrong I normally dig the stuff that My!Gay!Husband! produces, but all this “A Milli” remix is is a sped up tempo with a few occasional synth hits and claps, and a pause or two… not really a remix if you ask me. If you’re going to “release” a remix to the public/blogosphere I think it should be something a little more than going into Garageband or some other audio interface and speeding it up…

i know exactly what you mean, but as a dj myself sometimes its really nice in a club to have a really simple remix. depending on the crowd, as a dj tool, it could be really important.

i’d say it’s the same as scottie b (which is why i lumped them together). the production value is low, but they’re still a lot of fun to throw in for a min or two to grab everyone’s attention.

    bass is key.

Late comment, but I agree with the importance of the simple remix.

If the crowd is slippin, nothin will bring them back quicker than a really popular melody with a good bassline, not something that vaguely sounds like a song they know, but is so cut up it doesn’t have the same flavor. that’ll just push em away more because they think you won’t play their favorite songs.
