As far as I’m concerned, when it comes to French producers Alan Braxe is my favourite. Yes Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and even you Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, you come second and third on my list. Your flashy light shows and expensive LPs are just fine and dandy, but you’ll never gets me as excited as an Alain Quême track or remix.
I don’t know what it is. Daft Punk produces some very perfect and simple dance music that everyone will like no matter what their current musical orientation is — and Justice does amazing work with older analogue synthesizers and utilizes sounds not really intended for dance music. Maybe it’s cause Braxe always switches up his partners. In the past we’ve seen some powerful partnerships like Stardust (okay… TB was involved aswell, +1 for DP) to remixer surpéme Fred Falke and Kris Menace.
My favourite dance tune of all time is an Alan Braxe and Kris Menace collaboration called ‘Lumberjack.’ First time I heard the track, I really disliked it. I just didn’t like the rolling drums and long drums. After awhile I really started to like the track and mixed it into all my sets for about 6 months straight. It even became subject as a “signature” mix of mine between that and ‘Crack Dat.’
Like Lumberjack, Alan Braxe’s newest single ‘Addicted’ (which I missed… somehow) did the same thing to me. I heard it, disliked it and forgot about it in a playlist — heard it later and it landed itself on repeat.

What Alan needs to release an LP, and market himself. I don’t think he’d have any problem breaking into North America if he really pushed an album, just the same way Justice and Daft Punk have done.
Just for fun, enjoy the Braxe remix of the 2003 release ‘At Night’ by Shakedown.
I think I feel, I feel much better,
At night.
